Turning Microsoft 365 Copilot access into practical application

October 2025 and August 2026

The challenge

Employees had access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, but access alone did not tell them how the tool fit their everyday engineering, writing, research, and analysis work.

What I discovered

I learned the workflows of each audience before designing anything. For the Governmental Affairs team I went deeper, studying the team's actual writing, communication, research, and data tasks so practice could happen on real work rather than generic examples.

What I designed and led

I designed and facilitated two customized AI enablement experiences. The first, in October 2025, was delivered to approximately 45 engineers and centered on their common workflows. The second, in August 2026, served the six-person Governmental Affairs team with hands-on practice built around their own tasks. Participants developed agents to support repeatable writing and communication work, and used Copilot to complete an Excel task that would normally take a full day in only a few minutes.

Why those choices mattered

Designing around real tasks moved participants past feature tours and into application. It also created internal advocates: the first group's leader recommended the experience to other leaders, which led directly to the second engagement.

Evidence of impact

  • First audience: approximately 45 engineers
  • Second audience: six-person Governmental Affairs team
  • Expansion through internal word of mouth and leader recommendation
  • Practical workflow adoption and strongly positive participant response
  • Excel task reduced from approximately one day to a few minutes during the workshop
  • One participant began the workshop saying, "I've never used AI in my work or personal life," and ended it saying, "I'm impressed. I'm excited to keep trying this for other things I do."

Skills demonstrated

  • Workflow discovery
  • Custom curriculum design
  • Live facilitation
  • Agent and prompt development
  • Responsible-use guidance
