Building instructional design capability for a global organization

The challenge

The instructional design department needed shared standards and a common foundation so the team could reduce rework and collaborate more easily with other departments.

What I discovered

I learned how the department currently worked, where handoffs broke down, and what the team's primary context required: creating learning materials for surgeons.

What I designed and led

I created practical templates to standardize the team's processes, reduce rework, and improve cross-department collaboration. I then designed and facilitated hands-on activities that established a shared foundation of instructional design strategies and best practices tailored to the team's work.

Why those choices mattered

Templates alone rarely change habits. Pairing them with practice on the team's real materials made the standards usable and gave the group a shared language for future projects.

Evidence of impact

  • Standardized instructional design templates delivered to the department
  • Hands-on workshop tailored to surgical education materials

Skills demonstrated

  • Instructional design strategy
  • Process standardization
  • Global facilitation
  • Team capability building
